Lately on MyNews24 I've read a lot of blogs by users and was quite surprised at the amount of articles about atheism, pro and con. I feel as though I needed to say something with regards to who most of us are and what we represent.
The Morality Dilemma
So even though academics like Christopher Hitchens and Richard Dawkins have argued this fact with a lot of creationists I still see a massive amount of them asking the same questions over and over again. There are the higher end creationists who seemingly present a massive amount of academic reasoning within their articles and then there are empty vessels chiming on with irrelevant pieces and downright slander. I won’t name any names but I think a lot of you know of whom I’m speaking of. If you want a detailed run down about the morality issue as a creationist then I urge you to go and see what these two brilliant men have to say. Do these creationists know the answers to those questions but try and trip up your average atheist with these articles in order to have them question themselves? Or are they merely trying to be insulting?
For the record; my take, morality arrives from reason and not divinity.
Diatribe and Irony
In these many articles I often see creationists slamming atheists for being insensitive, provocative and extremist. Now I’m not sure where they get this from or maybe they’re just overly sensitive about their religious beliefs but more often than not, this may be based on bias, it’s seemingly the other way around, my last post was case and point. When I see creationists posting articles that directly go for atheist’s jugular, atheists come back with proper arguments. Yes I see some of them dishing out the insults but they’re generally directed at the individual writer and not their faith. The writer tends to dodge the questions and throw out defensive comments that try to make him/her look like the victim where all it serves to do is make him/her look like an idiot. We cannot open a formal debate when we never get a response. Is it because they don’t have one? Or because they’re so conditioned to hate us that they figuratively block their ears whenever we respond?
For the record; I will not and have not insulted anyone’s faith in any of my articles. I merely wish to put my concerns across.
I love reading these articles that try to debunk evolution and question scientific analysis by throwing atheism into the pile. The difference between science and religion is simple. Religion claims that god/s fill in all the blanks. Science states that it does not have all the answers yet, that’s the beauty of it. A thousand years ago the idea that the world was round and that we revolved around the sun was considered blasphemous and incomprehensible. So imagine what we as a species will have learned and consider as fact a thousand years from now? Will we look back and laugh? Will we have discovered the truth about our origins and finally put this to bed?
For the Record: Science and atheism are not one and the same. Stop throwing questions about the big bang theory and evolution at us as if we all subscribe to them as fact. Atheists simply don’t believe in the supernatural, that doesn't mean we agree with all the scientific theories.
The Average Atheist
I’m no academic and will never pretend to be. I won’t try and sound like I know a hell of a lot more than I do in my articles and I will continue to write the way I do because I feel as though the average reader needs to hear it as it is. I try to use common sense as my weapon rather than a tirade of information that can be difficult to sift through. That being said, a lot of readers are like me. Tell me what you think and I’ll tell you if I agree. There are extremists on both sides of the fence here but I feel as though the average atheist is less inclined to be an “anti-theist”, as so many plainly put it, simply because many of us have been religious before, myself included.
For the record: I am an atheist. I respect your right to the fourth Amendment (freedom of religious choice) but I don’t believe my freedom FROM religious choice is being respected in turn and I will continue to post as many articles as I can to help remove the over whelming stigmatism against our belief.
With all that’s said, feel free to quote and pick apart every word I say to use it against me. I’m just going to state that, no, FOR THE RECORD, I don’t argue semantics. Try harder.
