Atheism kills its maker, evolution

18 June 2014, 08:42

Evolution happens over a long period of time where each species adapts to changes in its environment.

There is no adaption when short term things like Earth having a great flood by catching a meteorite, or Earth having bad indigestion and spewing forth a rush of volcanic proportions. Yes, evolution is fine so long as no one tampers with it.

Evolution will eventually produce an intelligent being. It has to as it is ‘designed’ to build on previous generations via natural selection where the strongest and most  intelligent, rule.

At some point, the intelligent being starts to modify his environment. He recognises that he can advance his ‘evolution’ by changing the evolution of others. Today, we control insects aka pests with poison. We genetically modify food to grow faster, bigger and ‘better’. We give growth hormones to our protein providers, you know, those things that we call pigs, cattle, sheep and chickens. The dairy cow, race horse and most dog species would not have evolved and could not survive on their own. We created them. For them evolution does not exist.

What we eat, drink and breathe has been modified. We are no longer evolving naturally. We have isolated ourselves to cities and thus removed ourselves from our natural environment. The sum total of global warming means that we buy yet another air conditioner. Yea, no evolution involved here.

But our impact on all other species means that they are no longer evolving naturally. Plastic debris in the middle of the oceans means that even the remotest spot is no longer natural.

Then there is our artificial intelligence ally, the computer. Movies and books have been written on the impact of AI. We can magnify our thinking ability and so our intelligence is no longer naturally bound. We have moved outside evolution.

At times, we wonder if we are not devolving BUT then we create super smart kids via selective breeding or via genetically modified processes and we know that it is only a matter of time before we produce a supreme being aka god.

Science, in its pursuit of knowledge, questions the source of our very existence. Viz Are we a freak of nature in the vastness of the uni / multi verse or are we a deliberate creation?  Science aka atheism believes that evolution, the freak of nature option, is our maker.

Evolution, by its very nature is going to eventually select a species that will destroy it. If this were not the case then the theory of evolution does not explain our existence.

So we are destroying our environment BUT according to atheists, religion is dying and atheism now rules. So what does that say about atheism?
