I have made a few comments on these forums- seems I can't restrain myself sometimes... Most of the time, I try and not judge people or get too antoagonistic in my posts.
My emotions often run high with what I read but I am hesitant to begin the "castrate-the-bastard" and other games that are regularly posted here. For one, by betraying a desire to decimate someone else, you are actually reducing yourself to their level... Remember always the rule that when you point at someone else, 3 fingers point back at you... Or the African anecdote about how, to call someone a witch, you yourself have to know what a witch is and you are pointing out something about yourself...
If we are going to solve any problems in South Africa then we largely have to solve them ourselves. It doesn't help to focus on blame and punishment but rather on what can be done, without going to the extremes, to solve any given problem. We have to do it ourselves and that means getting over ourselves and our initial prejudices. Solving a problem is best done without the interference of the ego.
One of my particular gripes, as major point two, is that too many of the religious people on this site tend to imply that atheists are not moral or that being an atheist somehow makes you inferior as a human and that you need to be "shown the light"... Get real people! Being an atheist, objectively, is on the other side of a logical divide- those that believe God exists and those that don't. There is no reconciling any points of faith and both sides rely on faith for their standpoint and are no less or more valid than the other... The atheist has as much right to their thoughts as the devout Christian. Stop assuming any moral high ground. On both sides.
Seems that arguing about who is right just gets in the way of solving problems...
Other than that, it is always good to get the sense that there are a lot of people who are emotionally involved in this place and who want things to be a lot better. It is always a privilege to read well thought out articles and comments that actually introduce new thinking. Thanks for being an observant minority!
