I read an article today about someone who was brought up in an atheist home and then became religious later in life. This just shows that being brought up atheist is not the right answer. If you are brought up as atheist, you are likely to be atheist simply because your parents are. Later in life, you may be easily converted to religion.
Quite simply, “converting” to atheism does not offer any rewards and neither are there consequences for “leaving” atheism. Thus, it is far more likely that a child brought up in a religious home will remain religious for his entire life since the child will always believe that there are consequences for doubting his or her religion.
Having mentioned the above, you might say that atheism in it’s true sense is not a religion and should not be compared to a religion. However, atheism is closely related to religion since it cannot exist without religion.
A true atheist is not interested in the name if others are being brought up as atheist, only religions try to brainwash weak minds from a young age. Atheists do not need to convert/threaten/brainwash anyone. Atheism is about gaining an understanding after spending many hours thinking, researching and thinking some more. Atheists do not become atheist without understanding some or other religion, in fact, studying a religion is an important part of becoming atheist for atheists do not simply take the word of others, they try to understand all information and then make a decision based on logic and facts. Generally, making this type of decision will always lead to atheism since it is the factual answer. Religion is a useful tool for controlling the masses which is slowly losing its power thanks to the “evolution” of man through education and freedom of speech.
So, if you were brought up as atheist and then became religious, that does not impress me at all, you are in fact showing that you have never tried to understand the world or the universe for yourself; or possibly, that you incapable of doing so. You simply follow the masses and believe the person with the best sales pitch.
Atheists are not sheep and are not interested in communicating with sheep. Sheep simply follow, atheists think for themselves. So, my atheist friends, please do not bring your child up as atheist, rather bring them up as free thinkers.
