Atheists, it is time for the next level

03 July 2013, 10:58
Another N24 user posted an article earlier about a personal experiment he conducted at his college.  I'm bad with names, apologies for that, but his avatar is of the flying spaghetti monster.

http://www.news24.com/MyNews24/Atheism-The-Born-Identity-20130702

This gave me an idea, but getting to that later.  I don't know about the rest of you, but I for one am sick and tired of theists making such a big deal out of it every time they encounter an atheist.  Even when it comes to a regular guy they know, someone close to them, when he comes out of the closet as an atheist, there is that very well known reaction of shock and dismay, usually followed by a stern lecture, because obviously there is "something wrong" with an atheist and he "needs to be fixed".  For some it gets a lot worse than that.  I am tired of it and it needs to stop.  I'm tired of evangelists, or so-called "fishers of men", who are randomly encountered on the streets, handing out pamphlets and little booklets containing drivel I have no interest in hearing about.  I'm tired of the door-to-door breeds.  I'm tired of the token drunk religitard that starts preaching to everybody around him about how good his god is at social gatherings.  I'm tired of people sticking their religious noses in areas they have no business interfering with.  I am tired of people trying to pump theistic drivel into the minds of small children, while their parents are trying so hard to protect them from it.  It needs to end.  Just the other day, I found and purchased a quran translated to english from the local hospice book shop for educational purposes.  As I walked out, a woman in her forties approached me and sternly inquired if I read the bible first.  Seriously, it is none of her or anyone's business what I read.

Then you hear theists say that atheism is a religion.  I don't need to say anymore about that, because I'm sure MANY people have addressed that topic already and I don't want to repeat myself again, but I'm here to suggest something we can do with that whole "atheism is a religion" shebang.  We can use it to attain our right to freedom from religion.  Hear me out:

How often do you hear about people from one religion randomly approach people from another religion?  When was the last time you saw a christian approach a muslim with intent to convert him?  When was the last time you saw a jew try to convert a random christian?  When was the last time you saw a hindu try convert a random jew?  I don't know about you, but I have never seen this happen.  For some reason (in democratic countries [yes, like this one]) you NEVER see one religion meddling with another religion.

So how about we give the religitards what they want?  How about we call atheism a religion?  They can call atheism what they want, it still won't make their god(s) real, but it CAN work to our advantage if we use it correctly.

I think the author of the article I quoted earlier is onto something.  Like he said, all religions have their special attire that marks them according to whatever sky-daddy (or version of) they believe in.  Why don't we do the same?

Get yourself a few T-shirts and maybe a baseball cap or two made.  It can contain any atheist logo of your choice, but be sure that somewhere the word atheist is printed on it where it can be seen.  Put it on and go about your regular business.  That's it.  Chances are one or two theists will approach you and will try and "fix you".  Remember, we are only giving them what they want by calling atheism a religion, so keeping that in mind, when the theists start preaching, you instantly stop them by calmly and politely saying these words: "Please keep it to yourself, it is offensive to my religious beliefs".  Respond in the same way a christian would respond to a muslim or vice versa.

Numbers count.  The more people get involved the more effective it will be and if enough people do it, I assure you more atheists will come out of the closet and do it themselves.  The aim with this whole process is to let the theists know we are not the minority they think we are, we are NOT interested in their god(s), we will NOT tolerate their intolerance any further and we just want to be left the hell alone.

Spread the word, tell all your atheist friends and lets finally get them off our backs.

Please share ideas (and abuse if you think this is a kak idea).
