Personally I don’t really have a Religion or belief so I have been able to watch this online war without taking a side and it has been amusing with both sides coming in with good points, but then unfortunately I read an article by atheist "sunblock" and it made me think.
Firstly I find it hilarious that these atheists chose to denounce religion and then proceeded to find another way of bonding with other people based on their beliefs. (Kind of one of the main properties of a religion). It’s also weird that these atheists seem really intent on proving that religions are wrong and that their belief system is right, If you think about it that’s what most inter religious wars have been fought over.
True most people are born into religion but the thing is that in this age a lot of people have a choice in what they believe in, hence the number of atheists. 500 years ago an atheist would probably have been burned for his/her ignorance.
The Bible does have a lot of flaws and whether or not God does exist you really can’t argue with it as a lifestyle guide. look at the ten commandments from 5-10, pretty much tells you how to live without going to jail or getting your butt kicked for sleeping with someone else’s wife.
I also think that it must be comforting to believe that you’re not alone in life no matter what and that someone always has you’re back. Heaven also seems pretty cool, nice to know that what I’m experiencing now is not everything and if I work real hard and follow some rules I get to go somewhere else after this. Why would you want to take that away from someone? It’s like telling a 5 year old that there is no Santa.
The angry atheist "sunblock" spoke about Christians and how they believe their religion is the only one. "sunblock" further alludes to that they base this on blind belief and not knowledge or experience. But that’s mostly what religion is about and if a Christian was to go and try experience other religions it would be like fence sitting. And I wonder if he tried experiencing all religions before rejecting faith.
My main point is that the atheists that attack people's religions are playing unfair, as an atheist you have the option of ignoring religion and walking away whereas Christians are going to get in trouble if they don’t at least try to illuminate you by saving you’re soul. If someone believes in a religion, they really can’t follow half of the religious instructions.
Atheists are becoming as bad as witch hunters and firebrand preachers, If we cant respect each others beliefs lets try at least respect each others choices. Come on guys lets rather go condemn religions that encourage negative behavior, like Satanists and their cat killing ways !!!
