Back to basics

08 January 2013, 14:01

If nationalisation had anything to do with socialism, then ‘they’ should be working on the basics first.

Look at our streets, there is at least one and half shebeens in every other street you pass by and it has gone from being seen as a means of survival to being misinterpreted as a norm in our society. If ‘their’ interests had anything to do with fighting poverty and bettering the life of the people, these crime nests in our townships should have been fumigated long time ago. The problem extends to our national roads, just look at the December stats related to Alcoholism.

It would be sensible to close these shebeens and basic to replace them with day care centers which are subsidized by the government. In that way ‘they’ would be encouraging the mothers to go and look for jobs rather than relying on collecting peanuts for grants. We would be tackling education problems from the grass root level and also be working on social problems in our communities. Ensure basic education from an early age and things will put themselves in order automatically. Cleansing of the community will be an ancient and irrelevant practice.

Some people’s best interests are to build a healthy community and are worried about the education system in these country but ‘they’ seem not to get it, because ‘they’ seem to lack basics too. Alcohol consumption is now a style in our communities. Our kids are being forced to learn about and accept alcohol from an early age. You even see the big trucks of breweries marketing and delivering alcohol in our residential areas. I do not think these sorts of practices are relevant any more, previously they were used to destroy our communities but now we are in control and should be able to stop them. Breweries should be made to pay a big bill to be spent on community building just like the Mines should.

We seem to be moaning about apartheid and how bad its practices including its followers were but when it’s us who are reinforcing the very same laws it is acceptable. I think we have to be fair if we want people to take us serious.

Let’s drop Bantu education that we are now reinforcing and replace it with something better please. We should not go too far to find something better, IEB is performing right under ‘their’ noses.

Let’s stop the old style of controlling people with Alcohol like the old apartheid mines did. Cleans the community with the good education system, rather than with the Pagan practices.
