Proud moments

15 November 2010, 18:00  - JG
I'm a South Africa living abroad. I have been abroad for about 10 years since leaving high school. The only reason I'm not in South Africa is I'm married to a European citizen.

The crime and corruption will never deter me to go home. In fact, it motivates me to get back and to do my bit to stop the country from slowly but surely being dragged downwards.

Being abroad opens one's eyes like nothing else can. My proudest moments are when people ask me where I am from and I can proudly reply, South Africa.

Looking at South Africa from the outside there are only two things that are stopping the country from exploding forward: crime and government corruption.

The police are doing a very good job and they are catching criminals but I'm afraid they are trying to extinguish a fire by pouring water on the flames instead of the source.

Without proper border controls, fighting crime is like one step forward and two steps back. Are the rulers not proud to be South African? Are they not proud of their beautiful country?

Do they not care about helping the poor? Why they are turning their backs on aspect of this nation in dire need of help goes above me. It is as if they government gets it's kicks out of purposefully not doing what they are supposed to do. Why do we have to nag the government do to what they are getting paid for?

I will return home within the next three years or sooner. I will not stand by and keep quiet while things around all South Africans seem to fall.

We have to stand up against this government because we are all in the same boat. If that boat sinks we all drown.

There is hope!
