In a recent letter to the Cape Times by Industry/Monsanto man, Hans Lombard he says that GMO grain " was consumed annually by 40 million South Africans, 800 million broilers, 1.4 million feedlot cattle and three million pigs slaughtered at formal abattoirs,..." he then goes on to say, and this is the crux of the matter "
For the coming season, all available GM seed has been sold out.
Did you get that? Sold out! This is BIG business for Monsanto. Farmers can no longer produce their own natural seed, that is NOT genetically modified, ask any farmer, none GM Maize is not accepted by the industry.
Only GM Maize. And the latest statistic I got from a food producer, is that South African Maize is now almost 90% Genetically Modified, in other words, Monsanto now has a total corporate control and ownership over Maize production in this country, as they OWN the seed, and farmers can only get their seed from Monsanto!
They can no longer produce their own seed as they have done since time began, no they have to PAY for it, BUY it from Monsanto!
Our staple food base, being Maize, is now owned by a corporation, that is not even a South African corporation but an American one owned by none other than Bill Gates! Guess what ladies and gentleman, Bill Gates now has total control over Maize production in this country, and corporate control over 90% of Maize seed, seed that was once produced by the farmers themselves and they did not have to BUY it from anyone else!
Do you get the picture? This is bio piracy, this is taking away our absolute right to produce food of our own. This is corporate slavery!
