I don't think I quite get it.
Eskom forks out millions to fund breakfasts arranged by the Guptas / New Age Newspaper. This they do to extend their brand, it was explained on 567 Cape Talk this morning. I always thought branding has to do with advertising, with a view of extending your brand, hopefully at the expense of competitors.
OK, so it stands to reason that Eskom wishes to gain some mileage over its competitors in the electricity supply environment. These competitors would be.... uhm.... Sorry, no, just run that past me again, who competes with Eskom for electricity supply?
The last time I checked Eskom was actually paying people not to make use of their services, or to use less of its services. This they do by offering rebates for those who change to solar heating. They even came to my house to install some energy saving bulbs - free of charge - so that I could use less of their product.
Come to think of it, this must be the only for-profit organisation who advertises on peak hour TV asking people to use less of their product. But sorry, I got a bit side tracked, I think.
What I meant to ask was, could someone just explain to me what Eskom could gain as a business by spending millions on breakfasts for business- and other politically connected people?
