This is an email sent to the IRB by myself this morning. The chances of them listening to what I say is slim, but we can hope. A few of these are also views I picked up from Nick Mallet and agree with him.
Dear IRB bosses
You must have received thousands of emails with regards to this but I have decided to throw my voice into the mix.
Your defence of Romain Poite is disgusting!
The referee should be cited for his terrible call in the 1st half for the yellow card issued to Bismarck Du Plessis. On further investigation it is clear that he said he has made up his mind with regards to the call of the "high and without arms" tackle made.
This is shocking as he has use of 2 linesmen, a TMO with a slow motion camera.Did the ref check the replays to see if his call was justified? Did he consult his linesmen to see if they would object to his call? The answer to both questions is no!
I have lost faith in the IRB as this game was a chance for the Springboks to overtake NZ as the number 1 ranked team in the world. Yet it seems that the IRB is determined to keep them there by hook or by crook!
Every referee in the world knows that NZ if under pressure in their own 22 area will concede a penalty almost forcing the team to go for a penalty conversion worth only three points rather than conceding a try worth 5 with a conversion to come. Yet do refs ever give the NZ players a yellow card for constant infringement of the laws? again the answer is no!
It is disgusting that referees will use the TMO for extensive replays to see if a try can be awarded, yet for incidents like this no reviews are made at all!
Your precious refs, that as you say are only human, need to step up and actually not be afraid to penalize and eventually card the NZ players for repeat infringements!
I can only guess that this will go ignored and unanswered due to the fact that you are cowards and feel to shamed to take responsibility for Romain Poite' mistake. Yet I can also hope that you will take action against him by fining him a substantial amount and banning him for a certain amount of games in the future.
