Campaign for the "Rights of children"

23 March 2012, 08:22
I think whilst we have much abundant activity of strikes and civil campaigns in this country, we should also engage on broadening our activities to social actions.

The public community should be in the forefront of pursuing and generating an environment that is clear on addressing illiteracy; unemployment; crime in our society, especially amongst the Youth.

Libraries are entities that are useful for information gathering, especially now that most of them are equipped with the latest technology for interactive communication such as the Internet (e.g. Facebook; Youtube etc..), and it gives a person a chance to access Local Bulletins and stories.

The public places like the library are institutions that should extend their operating times to include public holidays and Union strikes.Since a public library is classified under the “Sports and Recreation Faculties, it should therefore be conducive for school going children to be engaged in meaningful activities, rather than roam the streets during periods of closure.

The communities in the Eastern Cape, especially children in the Black townships and Rural areas are the most affected, since there is lack of sufficient infrastructure and if available it is deliberately under-utilised and the newly built building structures end up in the ruins.

These days children are often confounded in situation where there is lack of family values, growing up in an environment where there’s prominent use of alcohol and drug abuse which subsequently affects family life and causes the degeneration of society as a whole.

It is therefore plausible that during school and public holidays, thus including Union Strikes the Public Library; Sporting and Communal facilities should be made available to the public. The civil society's emphasis should when addressing social issues that are imperative and justifiable, especially when deciding to venture on street parades concerning “sale of alcohol” on Sundays, but also lack in providing effective community building strategies, that will aid in the Upliftment and Development of our society at large in, providing access to basic human service delivery.

The Dep of Sports; Arts; Culture and Recreation's core objective is to cultivate methods that can be utilised in equipping the children in Training and Learning Programmes that are efficient for each community. It should be noted that amongst our good old citizens and the unemployed, we have people with Skills and years of experience that can be useful during such periods, to help curb the high rate of unemployment and crime which is so prevalent in this country amongst the youth.
