There has been yet another CIT `hit`, this time in the Helderberg region. I cannot understand why this type of crime is still occurring. Years ago a coloured dye was introduced that would spray over banknotes, that were in the metal boxes used to transfer cash between the collection points and the vehicles, thus rendering them useless to criminals. Why is that not being used nowadays?
I seem to remember reading that incidents of this particular modus operandi had declined, since the introduction of the dye canisters in cash vans. For some reason, criminals these days are getting away with large sums of cash that should be sprayed full of a coloured dye.
With todays technology, there must be an even more clever method of rendering bank notes unusable to criminals.
Perhaps there is large scale corruption going on within the cash - in - transit industry that needs serious attention.
