Caught smoking by my parents!!
When I was 19, I was still living at home with my folks, me and my elder brother stayed in a flat that my dad had built in the back yard. Now through out my high school career me and my elder brother were smoking skelm. My parents were not stupid they obviously, got the smell of it on our clothes, but they never said anything except every time we had a braai , my dad would come to us and ask us for our lighters to light the fire
Every single time my dad asked we told him were would we get a lighter? We don’t smoke!!!!, He always turned around and said boys one day I am going catch you to ,and when I do……… don’t be suppressed
Both me and my brother laughed it off as we never smoked at home how would my dad ever catch us
So time went by and we as usual in the evenings after dinner, me and my brother went out to our pub we always went to, to go have a beer and a smoke. Before we left home on this cold winter night we went to say good night to out parents who was sitting in there night gowns and pajamas, and slippers in front of the nice worm fire place, My mother asked us to what pub we were going to, so we told her well we were going to o-Hagan’s but if the vibe was not nice we would probably go to the keg down the road .With that both my parents told us not to drink to much and go over the limit, and if we do go over board we should phone , and they would pick us up. And with that we greeted them and we were off
Now we never really drank to more than one beer we were more interested in chatting and smoking and being social, so we headed of to o Hagan’s ,we got there and the place was dead so we decided to go to the keg instead .
When we got to the keg the place was packed and there was live entertainment so we decided to stick around there we got to the bar counter and sat down ,and when barman took our order and served us a cold one, we lit up and struck up a conversation about fishing
And chatted away, halfway true our beer we lit another cigarette now my brother sat to the left of me and I was facing him sitting on the bar stool , when all of a sudden I felt some bloke sitting really close to me on the bar stool to the right , I mean he was seriously into my personal space , so still facing my brother I decided holding my cigarette in my right hand to hold it out next to me so the bloke could see I am smoking and he should really give me a bit of space , most people would move up a bit bun not this bloke
So this guy moved himself even closer, now I was getting irritated, and decided to blow my smoke in his direction but in avertedly while facing my brother still and still having a conversation , can you believe it this bloke moved right up to my now with his torso now touching mine still sitting on the bar stool so I decided to ask him to please move up,
And I turned around I was blowing smoke out of my mouth , to annoy my new unwanted “friend “ and as I turned my face I heard a loud BOO!!! I got the freight of my life because sitting next to me was my father booing the hell out of me , I realized that I have just blown smoke in my fathers face, and didn’t know what to do with the cigarette still in my hands , I worked quickly it all happened so fast , I took the cigarette and with haste put it out in the ashtray in front of me and then hit the ashtray down the bar to the left passing my brother almost connecting some other bloke sitting way on the other side . My brother looked at me with a vacant exception on his face and asked me what the hell!!! I leaned back and my dad went BOO!! Again but my brother carried on smoking, realized it was my dad, and put the cigarette. I was shocked I think I turned white , you see , even thou we new our parents new we were smoking , we didn’t want to smoke in front of them out of respect and we dint want them to be disappointed ,
My Dad just sat there and sed hay what’s wrong, and now I noticed my mom sitting next to him. Have a smoke man we came to catch you smoking to make sure next time we have a braai you would light it for my, While we are here let us buy you guys a beer, I was relived , but still uncomfortable , so we agreed to the beer but we never lit up again,
As my parents left the bar we could see the looking thru the windows on the outside to see if we would light up again, but we never did .
After this incident, we always lit the fire at our braai’s !!!
