Censorship and Freedom of Speech

17 July 2014, 07:43

I recently read an article on mynews24 which has a "comments have been closed for this article" on it, before any comments could be made. I feel that mynews24 shouldn't allow this. After all, there is a disclaimer from news24 saying that these are viewpoints of the posters, not news24. So what exactly is the problem?

If people are posting articles in their own personal capacity then news24 has the right to publish said articles or not. Publishing them opens the door to debate. By slapping a "you can't comment" on the article is akin to saying - "These are not our views, yet you are not allowed to discuss them". This seems ridiculous to me. If you are going to do that, then ban comments on all articles.

Better yet, don't publish the article in question.

*I know you won't publish this but maybe the person reading this will catch my drift...
