So under duress my family convinced me to reconnect the DSTV. Paid the month in advance, the reconnection fee, together with a pro rata amount to accommodate the remaining days of the current month and promptly left the store to let my family (read kids) enjoy the "world of magic" while I get some much needed study time.
Switch the decoder on (even reset the device) but "eish" I get channel 103 but not channel 101 - I'm thinking Mnet, who cares...same as the other locally supplied nonsense that's double subscribed through my taxes and TV license. Flip to a few more channels and it's like the Fibonacci sequence where some work and others don't -there is not even an error code to help our new matriculants navigate successfully through their call centre response sheets.
With a heavy heart, I call the DSTV call centre, after 5 calls over an eight hour period, hopefully less than 73 minutes in air time, and on two occasions led to believe that the issue would be resolved in 15min; the status quo remains unchanged (did I mention I was meant to study?).
I now have a dead battery, a hefty cellphone bill, a premonition that I will be wasting more time at a repair centre (for a 6month old device), disgruntled kids and NO way of knowing if the problem will ever be resolved.
Study...or go down the Naspers rabbit hole?
For today, I choose "Study" - so that I can one day afford a controlling share and flip-the -script.
Tomorrow holds true - the abandonment of senses and the cancellation of that which does not belong!
