The annual Steelpoort based Thorburn Security Solutions Golf Day on 3 March 2012 was not only about saying thank you to the Sekhukhune community for doing business in the area, it was also about caring. In 2011 Thorburn Security Solutions also cared when they contributed to the Eastern Limb Mines Executive Mayor’s Road Race with various forms of sponsorships supporting community members.
Both the Executive Mayor for Sekhukhune Cllr Mogabo David Magabe and Tubatse Mayor Cllr J.N. Mhlake accepted the Thorburn Security Solutions invite and participated as players in the Thorburn Golf Day. Despite for sponsoring this event (which also saw teams invited from various business and charity sectors from the Greater Tubatse Area, a youth development team as well as women team) did Thorburn also reach out to the needs of golf lovers in the area.
A team made up of Caddies from the Tubatse Chrome Club was sponsored with clothing by Thorburn whilst all caddies that worked on the day also received a food hamper from Thorburn Security Solutions. Each player and participating caddie also received a T shirt which symbolizes the importance of Sekhukhune in the area. Prizes to the value of R10 000 was won on the day and the Tubatse Club prepared a special sheep braai lunch for the players. Caddies working on the day were also entertained with boerewors roles and cold drinks.
Thorburn puts a lot of emphasis on the development of disadvantaged people including the caddies at the Tubatse Chrome Club. Annually caddies at Tubatse Chrome Club are issued with identifiable reflective gear and a lot of progress has been made in promoting the concept of caddie’s development – talk of a caddie academy is promoted. The first phase is to encourage business in the area to contribute to the appointment of a Caddie Master that is believed to be high on the Tubatse Chrome Club agenda should financial support for the concept be received.
The huge golfing potential that development players such as the Caddie Development Team portrayed was evident when the Caddie Development Team won the day.
