It seems that child maintenance/ child support seems to be the new “buzz word” amongst single South African woman. Well as a dedicated maintenance paying divorced Dad it grieves me to hear how some of my fellow countrymen expect their ex girl friends or wife’s to raise children on love and fresh air. It even gets worse when some men think that their responsibility stops when they pay child maintenance. Men our responsibility doesn’t stop when we pay child maintenance, we still have to give our children love, guidance and attention. As they grow older they will need us more and more. It is rather alarming to know that thousands of youngsters will be growing up without fathers. What type of society are we going to live in one day? A society where discipline is absent because the father figure was absent. I feel sorry for young girls due to the fact that the most important relationship they should have is the one with their fathers. The relationship with the father will determine what type of men they will choose one day. Just imagine what will happen in this country if thousands of young girls grow up without fathers. I know we have unreasonable woman in our society that drives men to run away from their responibilty, well this shouldn’t be an excuse to skip maintenance or exercising your duties as a father, that’s why we have laws in this country to protect us. Well if you are a real man then you will pay maintenance and father your children. Those men out there who are faced by unreasonable woman, please don’t run away from your responsibility please exercise the law.
