Child protection week…….!
World Child protection week has just been the forefront in South Africa, and if the reports that we are reading in the media, is anything to go by, the rights of children in this country of ours are being violated beyond anyone’s recognition.
The startling news of the man in Springs that apparently abused, molested not only his five children, but also his wife, raises concern. Keeping children apparently captive for their entire life, depriving them of being schooled, and amongst friends their age is not only atrocious but borders on the insane.
In the rest of the country, we find a mother, drowning her child in a long drop toilet, we have a mother killing her one twin with a panga, another cutting up her child, and so this list carries on.
Be the murders and actions of these parent, ritual and or cultural, we are talking about human lives that have become the victims of society.
It is indeed horrendous to read all of these abuses that seem to be the order of the day, and yet people seem to witness these abuses, but the general feeling is that they do not want to get involved to stop it.
People have become blasé to what is going on around them! They see but they don’t act, and that is a sad state of affairs to say the least.
Children come into this world at our will, and are born as a consequence of the actions of adults, and then those adults seem to lose the moral compass in life of caring and loving for the children, that didn’t ask to be born.
With children comes responsibility and as parents we need to accept and honour that responsibility that we have towards the children in our lives. We need to honour, respect and love, and not kill rape, mutilate, abuse, those precious gifts that we get in life! They only have one life on this earth!
