I am writing this because I for one am extremely concerned with where our lives are heading. I find, like everyone else that there are far too many stories of hatred, anger and all sorts of hurtful things happening around us. Even one of these stories is too much, it has to stop.
But to be honest with you, as much as these stories are horrifying, I am not particularly surprised at them. Why, because of our choices. This statement might come as a surprise and heartless to some but please bear with me as I try and tell you my thinking, so here goes…
When it rains, we run into the comfort and warmth of our homes so that we don’t get wet and can be safe. But I find that when it comes to life itself and its challenges, when it rains, we ask ourselves: “Why are we wet?”
We ask ourselves why do men rape, why are people dying, why is the government stealing and cheating its people. But the truth of the matter is that all this stem from our choices. Our choices create a domino effect. If I chose to steal, it leads to me hurting people, lying and possibly killing to archive my objective of stealing. By if I chose to help, the effect of that leads to caring for others and not wanting to see them suffer.
My point is this: We are the sum of our choices. Yes, our choices may result in others getting hurt, but at the end of the day, you and you alone are responsible for your choices, no one else and when you choose to reject God and stay in the rain and ask yourself, “Why am I wet?” , when you chose to reject Him.
God is the house we should run to when we face troubles. And if you don’t, don’t be surprised at the consequences you face.
Yes it is sad that our choices, whether intentionally or not, are hurting others. But to those I say, trust in God to give you the strength to forgive those that hurt you in any way, shape or form. God is with you, He will defend you.
Let us not blame God for the horrors of this would, God gave us free will, and we chose to go against Him, and chose a life of sin.
Deuteronomy 30:15 says; “See, I have set before you this day life and good, death and evil”
Only you have the power to choose the course of your life.
I am not talking about religion (religion is man-made); I am talking about a relationship with God. Only God can teach us to love one another. This love which I am speaking of, found in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, says
4 Love is patient love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking it is not easily angered it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
This love, explained in that passage is what we need to care and protect one another. To have peace, which after all is something we all want.
I hope that all of us may realize that the choices we make come with a specific set of consequences. I hope and pray we make the right one.
