To my brothers,
To set the record straight from the outset, I am a born again Christian and it is the most important badge that I wear. I am proud to be called a Jesus follower.
This article is directed to all the Christian readers of News24 and those that follow this constant religious debate. When deciding on which scripture to quote in this letter, there is only one real option, Matthew 22 : 36-39 : “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37 Jesus replied: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
I must concede that the reactions and comments by the Christians on these forums are shocking to say the least. If you guys stopped for a second to understand the command that Jesus gave us, I am sure that many of you need to do more repenting than our atheist brothers, as these commands are not of their belief but of ours. I do believe I am a happy clapper, but only as I understand and take joy in the blessings God has given me. So as Christians, can we please show some joy and tolerance for our brothers, whether they are atheists, Christians or any other religion. We need to show love, not as we choose, but as a command.
I encourage you to be the salt and light of the world, and be an example like how we believe Jesus is.
