70 years ago on a cattle train to Auschwitz my grandfather’s eyes met those of my grandmother. He was 18 and she was 16. They were both separated from their families like most Jewish kids were from their parents. They thought they were going to a concentration camp, but weren’t aware of the fact that they would die in it at the hands of the Nazis.
Grandpa looked into the eyes of grandma and all he could think of was to get her to safety and spend his life loving her and taking care of her. He managed to escape with her once the train stopped in Auschwitz. They walked for days and after much agony eventually landed up in France with relatives who helped them to get on a ship to South Africa.
Grandma died last year November and her last words were all she wanted was to go where grandpa was. She doesn’t want to live without him.
I wanted a love like that.
But having been schooled in an all Jewish school in the leafy suburbs of Johannesburg there were no possibilities of finding anything remotely as deep as what my grandparents had. South African Jewish girls must rank amongst the most spoilt and shallow creatures on this planet. Everything, but absolutely everything revolves around their comfort.
University posed quite a culture shock because suddenly I was exposed to other people away from the confines of the Jewish community. By then I was a full blown atheist so it didn’t matter who I dated.
I dated a few atheist girls but found their intellect a bit over the top. An 18 year old guy doesn’t need intellectual debates, and once you have decided you are an atheist, what is there to debate about?
So I ended up dating Christian girls. The best girls ever to date. Now why would that be the case?
Christians raise their kids in a whole different way than other religions/cultures do. Their daughters end up as caring women. They are the most selfless women on earth. It has all to do with the “good” principals Christians raise their young and has nothing to do with their religion.
University were the greatest years of my life. Rugby, booze, lots of girls and the minimum studying. That was until I got a rugby injury and landed up in hospital having to get a little bit of occupational therapy from a certain student occupational therapist.
I wanted to stay in hospital forever. I couldn’t wait for her to come fiddle with my leg and then see her blushing when my boxer shorts started standing up like a tent. It wasn’t my rising boxer shorts that were the issue. Her blushing became an aphrodisiac. It was the innocence of this Afrikaans Christian girl that became the most arousing aspect of what followed after the hospital stay.
Christian girls and then add to that Afrikaans girls, have simply no equal of all women on earth. They make the best girlfriends and wives. The amount of rubbish they are prepared to put up with from us men is simply unbelievable. Other women would have long booted us out but they stick with the dogs that they married.
The turning point came for me one Saturday night 12 years ago. I returned late after a rugby match all drunk and disorderly and it was what I found back at my flat that shocked me sober.
Since we started dating I just never brought up religion. I could care less what fairy gods she was worshipping. It wasn’t I that had to live by anybody’s religious laws, so for all I could care she could pray to Buddha. But on that Saturday night when I got back she was studying the Torah and had a book on Judaism next to her. I never asked her to convert because why would I as an atheist?
But once again this wasn’t about religion, but her commitment. Please, please tell me of a Jewish girl that would convert to Christianity? Have you ever heard of one? That is exactly my point!
A Christian girl will do anything to support the man she loves, even if he is a dog, like me.
She regularly attends her church alone. I take the kids horse riding and she returns all smiles. Not in 12 years have I once asked her to think about atheism. She has her own mind and should be allowed to live her life the way her parents had laid the foundations. All that matters today is that she is the best mother to our kids.
I specifically wrote this so the other cantankerous debaters on here can learn that even within a marriage we can have different religious views and still live in harmony with each other.
We should teach our kids that religious beliefs are a personal choice.
Now…….Charles, get back to your keyboard and tell us atheists how bad we are!
