Tell the average christian that their god, or jesus, or the biblical fables are not real, and they respond with the same velocity as a wrestling fan screaming WRESTLING IS NOT FAKE!!!!!!!!
In truth, the same mentality prevails in both camps: that desire to believe that a spectacular performance and a series of lies are, in fact, reenactments of true stories.
I don’t know what damage has been done to the prefrontal cortexes of the masses who believe either spectacle, but it seems to be severe and permanent.
So while I am on the fighting theme, I guess we could call atheists the MMA fans (real fighting). Oh sure, on the television, both fake wrestling and real, full-contact Mixed Martial Arts look the same. I dare say, fake wrestling with its verbose, egotistical, high-flying trapeze artists who bash each other over the head with chairs and tables looks much more impressive than MMA, but at least the emotion, action, blood, and suffering in MMA is real.
Now, sure, MMA won’t appeal to people who like to see the participants dressed up like like a clown (look at the Pope for an example), but that does not mean that these colourful characters are real fighters. It may also explain why they never challenge MMA fighters to a real fight in the ring, or step into MMA territory to prove their superior abilities.
Bear in mind that just like fake wrestlers, the performers and superstars of christianity will never admit to their fans that it’s all made up nonsense to entertain the crowd and rid them of some of their coin.
But if you have every met a true wrestling fan who thinks wrestling is 100% real, you know what sort of mentality you are up against. They unglue if you suggest that their favourite fighter is not actually a champion of anything (challenging their faith) because they never engaged in anything REAL. To a true fan, it’s all about the thrill and sincerity of the performance, without which their would have rather dull lives in the trailor park.
Give me boring MMA over fake wrestling any day, because at least I care if the guy wearing the gold-studded belt actually did anything real and sincere to wear it. But this seems to be the major rift between the two mentalities of our species that separates those who love fake action from those who appreciate a real performance.
And so, after this short but brilliant analogy (if I do say so myself) I ring the bell to start the fight down in the comments box we here on News24 like to call the ring. Let’s see whether wrestling fanatics or MMA fans are the best fighters. Moer mekaar.
