Churches – First do no harm.
I have read and article recently about the banning of the so-called “ex gay therapy” in California, this banned the so-called therapy being performed on minors. This decision were made after years and years of research, on sexual orientation, and the effect this so called therapy has on people.
Now let’s put this into the South African context, we still live in a society we corrective rape takes place on the daily basis, and now and then you here about violence that gets perpetrated against lesbians; the news calls it corrective rape. Now our government has denounced this practice and has spoken out against it on more than one occasion, and if the rapist is apprehended they according to our law get processed and eventually they would normally go to jail
But what about our institutions, you see I have read on a few occasions about this church in moraleta park in Pretoria that practices this conversion therapy onto their congregation, You see the problem I have with this being done by a church is that lets say
You are a boy ,lets say you are 15 and you are just getting to know yourself and you start flapping ,like a queen .Now lets say your Dad sees this Queen inside you and because he is a bit of a Christian ,witch comes out of a conservative family and is now a bit shock about what he see inside you ,and he has never met a Queen in his life So now because he does not know how to handle this revelation and because he loves you and is only looking out for your future ,you end up in one of these, conversion therapy run by this church who has its own bigoted agenda .
Now as far as specifics of this therapy, “intervention plans involve conditioning a man to a traditional masculine gender role. He should "(1) participate in sports activities, (2) avoid activities considered of interest to homosexuals, such [as] art museums, opera, symphonies, (3) avoid women unless it is for romantic contact, (4) increase time spent with heterosexual men in order to learn to mimic heterosexual male ways of walking, talking, and interacting with other heterosexual men, (5) Attend church and join a men’s church group, (6) attend reparative therapy group to discuss progress, or slips back into homosexuality, (7) become more assertive with women through flirting and dating, (8) begin heterosexual dating, (9) engage in heterosexual intercourse, (10) enter into heterosexual marriage, and (11) father children".[81]” now this description was copied and pasted its from wikpedia and was written by one Elizabeth Moberly and Joseph Nicolosi.[80] To me is looks like they have worked out a map for your life, however thay forgot to ad the following , (12) have a relapse (13) Have a affair (14) live with guilt (15) go into depression (16) decide to kill yourself or to live (17) this now only goes on of you chose life (18) except who you truly are(19) Come out and sort the mess you call a life out(20) get divorced (21) begin over .
Does this not seem pointless?
Most of these make believe therapies are not practiced by medical practitioners the reason for this is that all doctors take the hypocritical oath “first do no harm “ that is way you would probably find therapeutic courses like this would find a home in churches that is following a conservative doctrine who is full of bigoted angry hateful, close minded ,one hundred year old fools who feel that there version of Christianity is the only one and if you don’t comply with there backward doctrine then you will surely go to hell , type of a church.
The sad part about this is your conservative, family who have never met a gay person before , takes you along this church and then will force you to comply , you have no chance of saying no thank you , and although you are not even sure of what and who you are , Cause you are still figuring this out for yourself and still a kid they are going to now mettle with your mind , and shape your life for you .
Did you know - “ Researchers have found that suicide among lesbian, gay,bisexual, transgender youth (LGBT) is comparatively higher than among the general population. LGBT teens and young adults have one of the highest rates of suicide attempts.[1]”
You see it is hard enough dealing with issues as a kid but forcing people to go against everything they feel within their gut surely should be against that child’s human right to dignity, if you think about it that child That is why I feel we should have a similar law put in place in South Africa banning such therapy on children, protecting them, and keeping loved ones safe, and not throwing them to the bigoted wolves
As a father I can’t see how anybody can allow this type of therapy on any children cause to me in my mind as a gay man, there is a similarity between corrective rape, and this sick practice. of raping of the mind.
If you are an adult and you chose to do this therapy, good luck to you brother and see you in n club real soon just remember to flap!!! Stuff like this never works.
