Closing of Stations by Prasa/Metrorail

18 March 2014, 08:27
The Metrorail Watchdog would like to know from Metrorail and Prasa (The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa) why stations such as New Kleinfontein, Anzac, Avenue, Alloy, Webber, Germiston South, Germiston West, Goudryk, Bank & Maizelands have been closed by Prasa.

Plus of course the Alberton branch line of Gosforth Park & Alberton. There may be reasons to close the aforementioned stations for a number of reasons except Germiston West which was located adjacent to Germiston Hospital. India station is nearby within walking distance however it only sees trains during peak periods on the Germiston-New Canada corridor.

Perhaps it would be feasible to have Germiston West open during off peak periods as trains to Vereeniging and Kwesine pass by there full time. But sadly the Metrorail network has only decreased in recent years. With more and more stations been closed. Without finding an alternative option to keep them open.
