Someone has ruined my day.
I have a set daily routine. I drive to work early to try and avoid most traffic. I put on the radio and make some coffee. Then I read the news online, mostly on News24.com. I have a peculiar interest in any new developments and news from the scientific front. I also like reading the comments from users.
So this morning while I was reading the article about the ruins of an old wooden barge found at a building site at the V & A Waterfront and the comments thereafter, alansmartSnr’s comment gave me a pain in the ***.

Wow! what a find. Wonder if the ANC will not want to nationlize this too..
on the other hand.. its already a National treasure..but on the other hand again.. any treasure is a possible target for their corruption.
What on earth has this report got to do with the ANC, nationalization or corruption? True, I also don’t like the ANC, Julius Malema, corruption, racism etc. but I don’t comment about them in a report that doesn’t have anything to do with them. They’re already on every single news report and article and now they also get some of the limelight in a story about an old rotten wooden barge. This is a growing trend from the readers that comment, is this all we can talk about?
How many comments of readers have you seen that, after reading a whole article on some celebrity, challenges the newsworthiness of it. There are people who like to catch up on the latest celebrity news and gossip. Who are we to judge? It boggles my mind on how they still yet find the time to click on the article they don’t think is newsworthy, read the whole article that they don’t think is newsworthy, and then comment on the article that they don’t think is newsworthy, about how they think the article is not newsworthy.
I am confused.
Yes, it’s important that we should know what’s happening in our country, especially on the political front, but please guys, if I want to read a story about a stupid old wooden barge found somewhere in the Mothercity, or about the 25th child Brangelina is adopting from some third world hellhole, please leave the politics out of it. Humorous or not.
*My apologies, I was never a good writer. Please forgive any mistakes.
