Common descent’s barcode in the genome

09 August 2013, 12:02

Can we please (!!!) agree on something:

1) If a signature; a barcode, a watermark, etc; could be spliced into your heritable (sex) genes at a particular point, and you had kids, those kids would carry that signature within their every gene – right?  No others should have that signature – and particularly at precisely the point we inserted them.

  > Can we agree on that? (You could hardly disagree!)

      Good.

But what are the chances of a fraud or coincidence? Of the same signature placed on the same location of the genome to make it appear as if there is a family relationship between individuals (in the future) when none actually exists?

2) Well; your DNA is 3,000,000,000 – 3-billion – base-pairs or ‘letters’ long; so that the chances of the same signature landing by pure accident precisely between the same base pairs on two unrelated organisms is… one in three billion.

   …and…

3) What if we didn’t just add one signature, but added lots of different signatures/barcodes/watermarks – not into one individual, but periodically…. Into different individuals of different generations as time goes by.  I’m no statistician; but if thousands and hundreds of thousands of different signatures were inserted randomly into the 3-billion base-pair strand over time and then later assessed to be precisely matched across a broad population; the chances of probability, of accidental alignment of these many signatures on precise locations would make a very large number.  Indeed – in the case I will describe now, 1 in 10^120 (that’s a 1 with 120 zeros behind it).

It looks like this:

1 chance in 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

Long odds, you must agree.

Allow me to introduce you to creationism’s executioner: ERV’s: The Endogenous RetroVirus

ERVs link us with digital precision to our ape cousins and all other life in ways that will make you bottom begin eating the chair you’re sitting on.

You will howl and cry and try to divert this reality by screaming for fossils, by asking me what the ERVs evolved into, by showing me links to creationist websites that show how useful the ERVs are in our Genome…

But, not one of those arguments matter a jot simply because that is not what is being discussed here; What is being discussed here is that the ERV’s in Humans, our ape cousins, and other mammals and other life are in the same precise levels of ratio of commonality that precisely echoes the analogue fossil evidence, the geographic distribution over time, the geological strata that support these, and the other molecular clock proof that itself locks and seals the proof for common descent of all life.

But I know you’ll want more insight – so here it is:

Let’s pick ERV apart: Endogenous RetroVirus

> Endo: Within

> Genous: Gene

> Retro: Imitative

> Virus: Invades – I won’t insult you with further explanation of what virus means.

Technically: Endogenous retroviruses are endogenous viral elements that are derived from retroviruses, and they are abundant in the genomes of jawed vertebrates.

Here are the pertinent notes drawn from the technical description (per the link above):

"...occasional (retrovirus) infection of germline cells (cells that produce eggs and sperm) can also occur."

> Means the virus “gets not just into the host, but into the host’s sperm and eggs”

  ***

"may occur in a germline cell that goes on to develop into a viable organism."

and

"This organism will carry the inserted retroviral genome as an integral part of its own genome"

>Means... the virus DNA gets transfered into the next generation (on a specific location on the 3-billion strand genome (in the case of us apes.

  ***

"(therefore) an "endogenous" retrovirus (ERV) that may be inherited by its offspring as a novel allele”;

I trust you are still following... this means that the child of the infected will carry a ‘novel’ or ‘new/original/not occurring elsewhere’ allele (i.e. alternative forms of a gene that arise by mutation and are found at the same place on a chromosome)

   ###---###

Sorry – this stuff is harder than “And then god said this, that, or the other… Lesson over – let’s go get some tea and scones.”

But you get the picture – the watermark, the signature, the barcode of common descent written across all life, into every strand of your DNA.  Every human has the same pattern – and every Chimp has most of the same ones (with a few new ones acquired since we parted company 6-million years ago, and then, slightly fewer ERVs common to Humans, Chimps and Gorillas (who have their own peculiar ERVs since they split off from us and chimps), and slightly less to Humans, Chimps, Gorillas and Orangutans (who have their own peculiar ERVs since they split off from us, Chimps and Gorillas), ... and even less on Monkeys, Humans, Chimps, Gorillas, Orangutans.

I trust you’re following and don’t need me to provide you the same repeat for the entire Tree of Life (click that, it’s beautiful!)

So… Boyz-s and Girlz-s…

You can forget all the other mountains of proof that link us all together: ERV's all on their own do it and do it with digital precision that is both astonishing and indisputable.  Let me say that again – i-n-d-i-s-p-u-t-a-b-l-e.

Game over.  Please can we stop squabbling now about common descent?  With that squabble now done, please… no more “show me evolution” – I have just proven it. Please… no more “fossils!” – we have them, but it doesn’t matter anyway.

It’s not that we “won” and you “lost”, it’s just that you lacked the proof, now you have it; let’s get on with other things that don’t include wasting any more time talking about debunked creation.
