Companies escalating Identity Fraud (Vodacom, cell C, Altech). I recently read a post about how companies are lenient in punishing their executives and sending them to prison for wrongdoing. Instead, companies are more concerned about their image in public, and the profit rather than the people who make them the profit. Hence many people are just fired and suspended.
This brings me to my problem with these 3 companies above (and the police). I went to Vodacom to open a contract but was told have a pending contract opened in NicoleWay. When I went there to look for a contract details, they refused, although I was the rightful owner (according to ID) of the contract.
What follows was like a comedy;
1. They said I must open a case with the police.
2. I went to the police and they said I cannot open a case without proof and must go to vodacom to get proof.
3. I went to Vodacom and they said police must use section 25 to get proof.
4. I went to the police and they said, the company must open a case as I cannot open a case against myself.
Basically everyone pointed to someone. All i wanted from Vodacom was the copy of ID of the person who opened the account, and a footage at the store, and I told the police the same thing, you get the copy of the ID and the footage, you may Identify the fraudster. Both refused and I gave up. Two months later I get a call from Altech about an account opened under my name, guess what happened. The same process above.
Last month I get my free credit bureau report and I have a cell-c contract. I call cell C, they say they logged a call and will get to me in 48hours. 48 hours later, the reference number is invalid, the fraud department cell-phone they gave me does not even work. I called again, sent email to the email 'inbounboundescalations@cellc.co.za' twice.
No response.
To register and flag an ID with SAFSP, you must have acknowledgement of fraud from company and a police case. Both I
do not have. Now i want to apply for a loan, but my affordability is lowered by the contract that is not mine. Isn't there a way these companies can be held accountable for this? What do i need to do to have the issue sorted.
What is government doing about this?
