Confused justice

10 March 2014, 09:15
The process which is used to prove guilty or not guilty is warped. The legal system needs some serious revision, it is clumsy and produces inaccurate results. It leans toward being criminal friendly. It is a system that offers a lot more benefit to a wealthy person than a poor person.
The Pistorius case is a classic example of a system that is deeply flawed. The overpaid defence attorney is allowed to bully witnesses, try to trick witnesses. A person who has studied law, and practised law for years is given Carte Blanche to abuse people trying to help achieve justice. Its like a professional rugby team playing an amateur team.
The prosecutor is a state employee, not the highly paid (overly so) defense lawyer. The motives of these two individuals will be totally different, the state trying to prove justice with no financial reward to itself, the defense does it as a business, purely for money and no ethics involved.
The average defense lawyer must either have no conscience, or must generally spend sleepless nights worrying about the way they make their money ... setting criminals free on our society.
It amazes me how some people actually compliment the defense attorney for doing a good job. Is being devious and sneaky admirable? I have less than any respect for most defense attorneys, they all know that most of the time they are protecting guilty people from justice. A lot of our crime can be blamed on them, so no pity should be shown to them when they are the victims of crime.
If it is obvious a criminal is guilty, lawyers should tell their clients to plead guilty to save the state money and time. Cases are so easily withdrawn against criminals for tiny technicalities, why then are obvious guilty cases drawn out. Why are these lawyers allowed to badger and intimidate witnesses, with the very obvious purpose of hiding the truth behind the crimes of their clients?
The legal system is unfair and warped - worldwide, what is it that is so difficult to change, to a more fair system - for all human beings, not just for the benefit of the wealthy and the criminally minded. Or do the wealthy control it, as it suits their agenda to dominate others?
