As a young South-African it awesome entering college as a citizen in the “New South –Africa”. I remember way back in 1994 when our beautiful country was clouded by the most positive vibe. It was a blessing to see that all forms of racial barriers are being demolished. But now this beautiful South –Africa that I believe in is now being handed over by a demon called” Corruption”
Corruption is worse than prostitution. The latter might endanger the morals of an individual; the former invariably endangers the morals of the entire country. As a young citizen in 1994 I voted for freedom, unity and equal rights for all South-Africans. I don’t recall voting for individuals that will enrich themselves by intercepting the taxpayer’s money. I did not vote for a government to find itself amongst the list of the most corrupts governments in the world.
In recent news articles it seems that most ANC politicians got away with a slap on the risk, the best example is the Minister of Communication’s boyfriend that was awarded millions of rands in tenders. Her punishment which is a joke, she was suspended for two weeks and one month no pay. The police minister booked his family into a hotel for 3months while his home was upgraded. He received a warning and life goes in South-Africa.
All of this is due to a corrupt President with dark charm qualities that originates from the pits of hell. Unfortunately, corruption is widespread in government ministries and public enterprises. Our political system promotes nepotism and wasting money. This has undermined our legal system and confidence in the functioning of the state under ANC rule.
Corruption is the enemy of economic development, and of good governance.
