COUNTER EARTH PYTHAGORIAN ASTRONOMY
Pythagoras was one of the first to maintain that the earth and the universe are spherical in shape. He appreciated that the sun and the moon and planets have a motion of their own independent of the daily rotation and in the opposite sense. Outside the universe is an infinite void. At the centre is the central fire wherein is situated the force which directs the movement of the universe. Within the universe bodies revolve around the central fire as follows: Nearest to the central fire is the counter earth which always accompanies the earth; next in order is the earth, then the moon then the Sun, then the 5 planets, and then last of all, the sphere of the fixed stars.
The Counter Earth revolving in a smaller orbit than the earth, is not seen by us because the hemisphere in which we live is always turned away from the counter earth. This part of the theory involves the assumption that the earth rotates around its own axis in the same time as it takes to complete its orbit around the central fire: and as the latter revolution was held to produce day and night, it is a fair inference that The counter earth was thought to revolve around the fire in a day and a night, or in 24 hours. Counter Earth may have been invented to explain the comparative frequencies of lunar eclipses. The system amounts to a first step toward an anticipation of the Copernican Hypothesis, and Copernicus himself referred to it as such.
The counter Earth is a hypothetical body in the Solar system first hypothesized by the pre-Socratic philosopher - Philolaus to support his non-geocentric cosmology in which all objects in the universe revolve around a central fire. The Greek word antichthon means Counter Earth. Again it will be seen that the addition of the Counter Earth solved the problems of the Sun-moon-Earth rotational aspects but eventually the aspects of gravitation made the counter Earth theory redundant. If such a planet, counter Earth actually existed according to present scientific cosmology, it would be permanently hidden behind the sun but nevertheless detectable from earth, because of its gravitational influence upon the other planets of the Solar System. No such influence has been detected.
Space probes sent to Venus, Mars and other places could not have successfully flown by or landed on their targets if a counter-Earth existed, as it was not accounted for in navigational calculations.
Earth’s orbit is not a circle but an ellipse and in respect to Keplers second law A planet revolves faster when it is closer to the star.So if the counter earth followed the Earth on the same orbit with Counter Earth with half a year’s delay from Earth. Rather to be hidden from Earth, the counter Earth would have an orbit symmetrical to Earth’s njot sharing the second focus. BRITANNICA ENCYCLO. AND WIKIPEDIA.
