Courtesy and Respect

25 July 2014, 13:05
Respect is earned, Courtesy is not respect. If I am debating someone I must allow them to make their point, This is courtesy. If there point is so idiotic I reserve the right to make fun of them, the use derogatory language and to disrespect them. If their opinions are based on ignorance and emotion, I have the right to be courteous or not dependant on my frame of mind. When I am being courteous it does not follow that I am offering respect.
Courtesy is what most of the tards calling for respect desire, They want the people that have no respect for them to shut up and allow them to speak and spread their horse manure. If you had our respect, you would automatically be granted courtesy. If on the other hand you offer no courtesy you will get none in return.
My children were brought up to offer courtesy, help and a friendly demeanour, however they know that respect is earned. Respect is earned by being courteous, playing the ball, and debating with facts not emotion. The other day I was told to think about the poor kids mother, how should she feel about the death penalty. Facts point to everything that emotion denies. Making emotional decisions has always been a bad idea. Almost every time I have made a decision without the facts on hand and in an emotional state, the decision would not give the desired results.
I know of what I speak because I am prone to emotional outbursts and can behave very irrationally when I am in an emotional funk. About 15 years ago I made a very irrational and stupid decision because I ignored the facts and did some batsnot crazy things. When I look back at the decisions I made, I know that my wife and friends should not have been courteous, They should have told me outright that I was nucking futs. Even I cannot find respect for the decisions I made. I did however learn from the experience and you will find me making lists of pros and cons when a big decision needs to be made, you find me researching facts and offering courtesy to other peoples ideas and advice, even people that I don't respect for one reason or another.
Courtesy costs very little except on occassion a little self respect. Respect costs everything if you offer it ungrudgingly to the wrong people.
