This is a very sad day in my life that I have come to the stage when I say to myself to here and no further!
What is he on about you might ask?
A little history first, I was born and raised in central Cape Town and have always supported WP since I can remember, my dad had a season ticket and I had a scholars season ticket and used to love going to the games, I even started taking my two boys recently to let them feel what I felt growing up.
But I no longer feel I can lie to them and to myself as to the state of rugby in the Western Cape, as things have got to change and change pretty darn quickly otherwise this union is dead.
Yes we are the breeding ground for all big union talent scouts to scour through first before scouting off to other provinces and yes we must have made loads of money on the sale of some of these players. With all of this money we probably should have a winning team as we probably should have invested it back into structures and for retaining our talent and for winning game plans.
There seems to be a dark force at work at WP, people who are not there for the benefit of the union but for the benefit of their personal agendas and swelling bank balances. The WP rugby union seems to be run like an ANC led provincial government, where “I” am number 1 and “I” must try and get as much as I can before I get caught and have to leave and free food and drink for everyone.
People how are we going to rectify the downward spiral of our beloved rugby union? Does anyone out there know what can and can’t be done to oust these people from power? I know by me not going to the live game I am doing my bit to show my dissatisfaction as to the running of our beloved union, I do not and will not support any other union, but I can’t go on supporting WP, maybe the time has come for me to walk away from rugby.
