A Sharks supporter as I grew up in KZN, I have my doubts they'll win the final. (Being a realist is a pain, I know) Province is just a better team at the moment, they will outplay the Sharks in too many facets of the game. They certainly stand a chance of winning, but if I was a betting man my money would be on Province.
In the loosies, at the moment there is just no better in the country at the moment than Vermeulen. I see WP getting the upper hand in that part of the game. That one man is currently a man mountain on the field.
The Sharks locks are a few paces behind WP as well, Peter Steph is great but bully Etzebeth has the edge over him. (He should have been sited for his spiteful late tackle against the Lions guy - was it Botha?) The guy was hurt in the process, Etsebeth had a hissy fit due to the hand off - which made him miss the legal tackle. I do, however, think it is pathetic beyond reason that Bissie got off - only a brain dead or one eyed supporter would question he deliberately stamped on the guy! What is with it with the inconsistency?
Lambie will have a slight edge over Katrekillis, maybe if he fires he could provide a faint hope for my team. The WP backline has the edge over the Sharks, Colby and Aplon are deadly, and as for Jean - need I say more. Frans Steyn still fails to impress me. A good tussle, but WP still slightly better.
The mighty Sharks front row is depleted it seems - no Jannie. Anyway, on more than one occasion they have come up second at full strength. A front row needs power locks, on its own it is nothing anyway. The whole scrum needs to gel for a front row to dominate - and scrums are a grey mess in rugby. (I actually hate them, they slow the game down too much)
Anyway, the Sharks certainly can do it, but if both teams fire on all cylinders, the cup belongs to WP. Its going to be a tough contest, unless my boys arrive there with Natal fever (seen it before - remember Griquas, 1st game), then they are in for a hiding. Can't see that happening though.
Predicted score - 25 - 19 to WP. But I hope I'm wrong and we nail 'em, too many finals and semi's without going all the way is very frustrating for a supporter.
As for Friday night, I'll hopefully be at Mbombela stadium supporting my Puma team, which has performed admirably this year. Prediction - 34 - 24, Pumas into the Currie Cup next year, then we can watch more premier teams live in Nelspruit. (I wish more locals would support their home team though, whenever a "big" teams comes here 90% of people support the visitors. Pathetic.)
