DA Funders.

05 February 2013, 09:04

Funding for political parties has always been a controversial topic. Political parties around the world keep this a secret for many reasons we citizens are left to wonder.

This past week’s spat between Helen Zille and The New Age was not different. When asked if she received funds from the Gupta family, Zille said her party’s policy doesn’t allow her to disclose party donors. However, as questions from the public intensified and TNA leaked a letter of her thanking the Gupta family Zille “spoke-out”.

Throughout this DA Vs. The New Age (Gupta) fiasco Helen Zille has maintained her innocence accusing The Gupta family of demanding special favours from the DA. She went on to say that she cut off communication with the Gupta family when she saw they were doing this. Suggesting all DA donors doesn’t want any favours from the party.

That is however a lie, donors don't just give away money expecting nothing in return. The first and obvious "favour" donors would want the DA to do is take ANC out of power. This first obvious fact brings us to assume what broader favours those donors want.

DA is predominantly white in its composition and following. Nationally, provincially and in most municipalities it’s dominated by white leaders in staring backbone positions with few blacks put on the "Front seat" positions such as "spoke person" for publicity reasons. It wouldn’t surprise me if these “front sweaters” are also kept in the dark about party funding like us. Because of this, it will be safe to assume that it funded mostly by whites.

Whites that want the DA to take control of South Africa. These people don’t want the DA to control South Africa so it can give out National Student Financial Aid Scheme, Social Grants, land redistribution or pursue Affirmative Action policies further.

These donors don't believe young black South Africans whose older generation have been deprived of a good university education should be given first preference in SA's academic institutions. Most of them believe AA policies meant to redress past inequalities constitute "reversed apartheid". Helen Zille herself last year 2012 told a crowd of UCT students that "Race Based Admission policies should be scrapped".  Believe me we all want that but we are not there yet.

These donors want the DA to take control so their farms can be protected. They want their businesses to be protected from the blacks that walk in with BEE, BBEE cards on their hands. These people feel threatened whenever Nationalization topics come out of the government. The Freedom charter scares them. They simply cannot deal with the fact that the ANC has maintained political, economic and social stability since 1994. Their predictions of what will happen remain just a dream.

They will for the sake of being favoured by the black majority hide themselves with "secrete party policies" that can't disclose who they are. They will use the challenges we have in education, health and other basic services to pretend like they care. Attacking everyone who points out the fact that most South African challenges have roots from apartheid. Telling them to stop talking about apartheid as if it never existed.

They now earn six times more than blacks due to benefiting to the worst form of corruption called apartheid. This won’t stop them from acting like the corruption challenge is a new phenomenon coming with the ANC.

For 300 years they did not care if "Bantu" had electricity, education or health. Basically, they did not care about human rights for blacks.

They cared about themselves. Why would they care about those basics now? Why would they even fund the DA so it delivers them now?

One will say I'm racist, that DA is not a racist party. I'm not, I simply speak about the things you were thinking but you did not want to say. True, the DA is not a racist party. Its history starts from an anti-apartheid party. Its current leader was an anti-apartheid activist herself. It’s because of her that we know how Steve Biko died.

And the ANC need to stop giving ammunition to these bad intentioned donors. Needs to strengthen its fight against corruption, crime, inequality, unemployment and poor education.

So yes DA donors do want favours. Read down New24 comments you will see some of them.
