DIY Religion

22 April 2014, 07:19
On this long weekend filled with so much superstition, ceremony, symbolism, ritual and occasion, I find myself again wondering how it got this way, where do the superstitions originate from and which factors kept them being so relevant, it's a nice loooooong weekend after all, government and church issued at that. What role did ceremony play in this game, and how did diversely different ceremonies thrive for such a long time aiming at the same general superstition? And I admire the symbols and rituals they choose to represent their unique idea of what it's all supposed to mean.
There seems to be a very high value for the power of personal belief. We all know our personal belief is unique, we've all been positively and negatively judged for them, from all the sides a "fence" can have. And they affect us accordingly.
Would it not be better in all ways to have a DIY GOD?
Nothing can be more fantastic than your imagination, it simply has no limits. Create the most fantastic god you can imagine!
Find a nice hardback notebook, name it "the book of (insert anything) and start describing your god in as much detail as you like, maybe simple to start, you can always elaborate in later chapters or books.
Set your rules out for life, whatever may have influenced them. You do that already everyday, with main goals such as happiness, love, longevity, you know, the bog standard "we all want's".
Then do the afterlife. Personally I've left this one out, in my mind the probability of nothing outweighs anything, currently at least. But you are welcome to stick any custom fairytale in here.
Now comes the fun part, find yourself a couple of items that you can symbolize. Or put differently, items you can attach sentimental value to. These can be as new or old as you like, and again, the options are limited only by your imagination...
Pick a couple of significant dates on your life, assign these items to them and start planning your ceremony! Dates can be today as well, or any day to come! When my wife gave me an engraved watch she did it on a random day, and I've created a ceremony for that day, which I have thoroughly enjoyed ever since. (I celebrate her love for me, very creatively, so it's a good day for both of us...)
On the day, your ceremony will be custom made for you by you, you get to add value to your symbols that remind you about the happiness or love or (insert emotion) for the rest of the year. And you get to celebrate for the BEST reason... YOURS!
You add to "The book of..." As often as possible, recording significance in life, your mind and heart. You can add, revise and remove, you are the author!
Pick a day to celebrate your book, works like compound interest...
This advise is all but guaranteed to make you a happier person at the very least, since you decide what that would be, and doing it is exactly the you want it!
Best case scenario, a free of charge sure fire way to a happier longer and better life...Worst case scenario, you experience a more efficient delusion...
And remember, if you are currently a Christian, you have a lifetime "revert free of charge" insurance policy. (Unfortunately no cover for accidental death and many other things, please read your fine print carefully as eternal damnation might result)
Now here's the kicker... If you have children, you will teach them what's in your book automatically, as it projects something between who you are and who you would like to be, and they'll in turn supply you with endless content for you book.Include them in the ceremonies and the book, and the value compounds again. If possible before you die, attach some monetary value to the book, it starts the cycle. (Worked very efficiently for the church...)
If possible make a final handing over ceremony, or if unforeseen, leave it in your will with ceremonial instruction, although these should be well practiced by now...This will is the best way to start a cycle of longevity for the book and it's contents, and as such, your DIY god and it's religion...
So why not make yourself a DIY religion today, name it, symbolize it, give it rituals and see the value grow!

(No faith required, only belief in yourself and reality. Attach faith in imaginations at you own risk)
