With Father's day around the corner, I want to take this opportunity to encourage all fathers to absolutely make the most of the day, by showering your children with the utmost of love and affection. And please don't you dare say, it's just another commercial ploy for shops to earn revenue! Yes, we should be celebrating fathers every single day, but on this day, why not go over the top and spread altruistic affection to fathers and children alike.
The reason I am screaming out for this day to be celebrated is because at least you have maintained (I hope) your relationship with your children, even through a separation or divorce. Unfortunately my ex-husband has chosen to abandon our two young boys, and hasn't bothered to keep in touch with them for over two years now. Yes, divorce is a horrid disease for anyone to go through, but it is no excuse to neglect your children, who are mere innocent victims in it all. Worse is that he and the boys were inseperable once, and in his quest to "find himself" after feeling "lost" since the divorce, he has sadly forgotten his children.
Which is why I urge all fathers out there to make a concerted effort to show your children just how much they mean to you. And to all the mothers who have become fathers too…a blessed Father's Day to you.
I wrote this poem through the eyes of my son, and I hope it inspires fathers to take their pivotal role more seriously…
Daddy's gone… It's been two years since I last saw you
you said it will be for just a few days
now months have turned to years
but I am strong, I don't miss you.
I received my school report today
it brought a smile to mum's face
and I know you would have been proud
but I am strong, I don't miss you.
Its my 12th birthday at last
so many wishes and presents too
I wait for the phone to ring
but I am strong, I don't miss you.
Diwali, Christmas, New Year
time is passing, seasons changing
I search photo albums to remember your face
but I am strong, I don't miss you.
I know mum and you couldn't be together
but you said you will never leave me
do you still remember me, love me?
but I am strong, I don't miss you.
