Yes, you lot who believe in science and logic and rational explanations. The atheists who go to great lengths to try and convince every one else (and yourselves) that there is nothing other than science, logic and rational explanations. Yes, I may believe in an invisible deity that I cannot prove the existence of, save for her presence in my life, but there are other things that also defy science and all reasoning. In fact, I would challenge anyone who can give me a nice scientific, logical and/or rational explanation for the following:
Sunday night, or rather Sunday morning around 2:00am. I had just fallen asleep (hello insomnia!) when I was woken by a familiar noise in the bedroom. My dressing table stool was moving. My cat, which was sleeping in the bed next to me, sat up and pawed me. So I was wide awake and watched in horrified fascination as the dressing table stool moved backwards and forwards. All. By. Itself. Needless to say, I threw the duvet over my head and tried to blot the sound out and eventually fell asleep when it stopped.
A steamy bathroom with no-one in it but me and a hand-print appeared on the bathroom mirror. I’m in the bath right, so it’s not my hand. Anyway it’s too small, far too small and it was too big to be the handprint of our then three year old.
My mother and I went out shopping and came home to find her bedside tables in the middle of the bed. There was no-one else home at the time.
My sister was smoking outside early one morning and saw a child run through her house which she presumed to be my niece. She goes back inside to find my niece still sleeping, as in fast asleep. She admits that it freaked her out somewhat.
We have since decided that, as both my sister and my mother have on separate occasions seen it, it’s the ghost of a small child who haunts the house. Sometimes, like now, it’s very active, moving furniture and objects around the house and opening cupboard doors in empty rooms and other times there is no activity whatsoever, but this is what we believe. This is also not the first house where we have had supernatural experiences. In an early house that we lived in, and this is when I was a very small child, the kitchen cupboards and drawers would all be open in the morning when it was just my mother and one-year old me who lived in the house at the time.
In our townhouse, we actually called in a minister to bless the home as there were footsteps up and down the stairs at night, the toilet seats would constantly be up (when the house was filled with only women), cupboard doors would open by themselves and a bowl of crystals literally flew off a shelf and shattered into a million pieces, which was terrifying.
We’re a family who firmly believe in the supernatural but it would be interesting and rather educational if another explanation could be offered.
To those who don’t believe, what else could explain all this? Is there a nice scientific, logical and rational explanation for any of it?
