Dear Bishop Pule Magethi, hands off my Iron Lady

18 March 2014, 08:27

Christian to Christian I would like to voice my disgust for your hypocritical, shameful attack on the public protector, Thula Madonsela for ‘’poisoning the atmosphere in our country by her general demeanour in the execution of her duties, particularly in the matters of advocate Pansy Tlakula and SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng,"

You are supposed to be protectors of the poor and the powerless; a beacon of morality, yet your actions show a frightening degree of moral bankruptcy.  Are you not supposed to be preaching that honesty is the best policy? Your defence of Hlaudi Motsoeneng, a man who has so far failed to come clean on accusation of fraudulently claiming to have passed Matric, beggars belief. What happened to Psalm 15:1, 2: ‘’ who may live on your holy mountain? The one whose walk is blameless, who does what is righteous who speaks the truth from their heart’’

How do you justify a salary rise of more than a million Rands in a year paid from licence fees and tax payer’s money?  All this in a country where youth unemployment is at its highest.

In December 2010, in Daveyton, you praised Julius Malema for’ being arrogant’ young man and prayed that God guides ANCYL when choosing a leader.  The same Malema who had just returned from leaking Sushi off naked women bodies and still had case pending for singing ‘shoot the Boer’.  How can you claim to hold a moral compass when you dine with people who are exploiting the very people you are claiming to lead?

You are a perfect fulfilment of Acts 20: 39: ‘For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock’.

In execution of public protector duties, unlike you church leaders; Thuli has been nothing but honourable, trustworthy and thorough.  Unlike you who chose easy targets, Thuli has courage and strength to stand for what is right whatever it takes. While you have been busy promising kingdom in heaven, she has been busy making sure that our country has a future.  She is under enough pressure from the government and the likes of you. So please, please in the name of God I will ask you to back off and let her do what is best for this country.
