Good day to all,
This article is not addressed to those who call themselves atheists, but to those who call themselves Christians. And of course, the verses below are not expected to be understood by atheists, they are meaningless to them (...Not that I believe there is an atheist, but I’ll use the word atheist anyway). I will try to be very short and simple.
I am Christian, I have come to know Jesus Christ and continue to see his works in me.
I find it very disturbing when people in this forum claiming to be Christian engage in fruitless arguments and/or discussions that I am compelled to raise a few concerns to them. I write all this in my capacity, so if anyone thinks it’s stupid just know that I DO NOT REPRESENT ALL CHRISTIANS, it will be my stupidity alone. The same should be true about what other Christians write here.
1. Why are you trying so hard to prove God’s existence to people who say it to your face that they don’t want to know God?
Where do you find that? Is it in the word of God that we should do that? You cannot prove the existence of God and that is because you are not supposed to. There is nowhere where the bible instructs us to do that. As much as we are to make disciples for Christ, proving God’s existence is not our Job, God can prove his own existence to whoever he chooses.
Exo 3:14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto
the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
Also learn from Paul’s conversion.
2. Should we try to prove anything at all to the atheist?
God forbid.
Mat 4:3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God,
command that these stones be made bread.
If you want to show anything to anyone, let it be the blameless life that you live (...if you do).
3. Why do you shame all of us? (Do not cast pearls to pigs)
Mat 7:5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and
then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.
Mat 7:6 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before
swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.
I have read a number of articles where people take their time (...like I am doing now) to compile articles that try to explain the bible to the atheist. A good example would be that of one trying to explain John’s visions in the book of revelation. No personal attack intended here, but what is a church for? Why should that end up at a news24’s ungodly forum? I will not say whether the contents of the article were true or not (...because I don’t know), but I will say that such things do more harm to the Christian image than good.
It is not “Wise words” or “Powerful words and revelations” (...if there is such a thing) that get people to know Christ, but the power of God that works miracles in one’s life. Salvation is a miracle, not a fruit of endless arguments and divine revelations. It is the work of God. No amount of explanations can get a person saved. You should spend more time praying for these people if you want them saved.
Could it be that you made sense of everything in the bible then you got saved? I bet not, you got saved first then understood everything that you do (...if you do). So why expect the opposite from these people whose only wish is to see you choke in your own arguments?
Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is
The gift of God:
Eph 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Eph 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works,
which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
Eph 1:10 That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in
one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even inhim:
Eph 1:11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated
according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:
4. Why argue about things that you don’t even understand?
Take science for instance. If you consider science as an evil thing then I do not expect you to comment on this article because it is practically impossible to do so without the use of science, you should walk to work because a car is a product of science, you should not own a cellphone, you should not use a guitar or microphone at church because then you are bringing the devil to the pulpit. Yes, all those things are products of science. You are probably almost totally dependent on many other products of science.
Your house should not have a geyser, an electric stove, a TV, electricity, running water, a light bulb etc. Yes, use a candle and don’t warm you meal in a microwave oven. That screen you’re looking at right now and that keyboard or keypad are no exclusions. Plus you’re on the internet as we speak. These things were not created by faith but by science.
You continually fight a battle that you do not understand, and that is shown by the ignorance that is displayed in a public forum like this one. Again this continues to harm the Christian image. Science within its boundaries is not evil. Science outside its boundaries is as evil as sin just as “Christianity” outside its boundaries (Outside the word and will of God) is evil. Take Hitler, Bush and many others that you may know. In fact, outside the boundaries of the bible there is no Christianity, there is rather people who claim to be Christian for whatever personal gain or opportunity they want to take advantage of.
Mat 10:16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore
wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.
5. Do I know God?
Yes I do. Do I know for sure he exists? Yes I do. Not only does he exist, he lives. Can I prove my claim to the next person? No I cannot, and I will not try. I can only testify of what I know and what I have seen. Does that make me sound like a fool to the atheist? Yes it does. That’s how it should be and until you as a Christian understand and make peace with that you will continually feel the need to explain yourself, in the process shaming all Christians and driving all people to resisting God. Why should you desire to fit in?
Our duty is to bear testimony of this salvation.
Eph 1:17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto
You the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him.
1Co 1:18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto
us which are saved it is the power of God.
1Co 1:19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to
nothing the understanding of the prudent.
1Co 1:20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world?
Hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
1Co 1:21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it
pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
1Co 1:22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:
1Co 3:18 Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in
this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise.
1Co 3:19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He
taketh the wise in their own craftiness.
1Co 3:20 And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain.
6. Do we have to answer to every question that is aimed at attacking us or the word of God?
Definitely not.
Pro 26:4 Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.
So I kindly ask you Christians to be satisfied with who and what you are. Engaging in these fruitless arguments only proves your own insecurities and exposes the limits of your knowledge and maturity. Not to say I am more mature or more knowledgeable. Whatever you think about me doesn’t matter, but do consider that while trying to defend your belief to the public, particularly the atheist, you may be causing great harm to all other believers and hindering the work of God in the process.
In fact I do believe that these people’s only motivation to throw insults and curse our God’s name is the response they expect and/or get from us.
In conclusion, Christ remains Lord, with or without our arguments.
Love you all.
