How could anyone be so deluded? I have been asked this question many times. And it is usually the deluded that are the ones asking it.
I guess that reality is too difficult to handle so folk make up something to calm their nerves. Let's just use the old smell test to see which is less delusional. On the one side you have the universe being made in six days by a deity, and on the other you have the universe being created from energy that is from the inherent instability of nothing. The Six Day universe is orchestrated by the whim of a deity. The universe made by Unstable Nothingness is orchestrated by the geometry of multidimensional space.
The Six Day Verse is only 10 thousand years old. The Unstable Verse is 14.7 billion years old. In the Six Day Verse the deity makes some mistakes and has to start over, killing nearly everything. In the old Un-Verse periodically things get wiped out by meteors or earthquakes or disease, or a hole bunch of redistributions of energy. In one universe there is a plan. In the other there is only the order created by the mindless energy wiggling in multidimensional space-time. In one universe there are talking snakes and guys that come back to life and walk on water.
In the other universe the snakes don't talk and the dead stay dead. In the one universe all those who ever live have to play out a major melodrama about good and evil that determines the fate of their souls. In the other universe there are no souls but plenty of opportunity for melodrama. So which one of these rings of truth? Which way of looking at it is the least delusional?
