Diary of a SAFFA Dog -A New Day Dawns

25 February 2014, 06:54

“I’m back!”. By popular request I have resumed my whimsical observations of our daily world.  I have been silent too long and many humorous events have passed unnoticed into history.  My fans no doubt, will hail my return with some glee, whilst my critics will be rushing to their keyboards to express their dismay at my reappearance.

We are once more ensconced in the Holiday Home as Mother is off on her travels again.  This is our second visit of the year so far.  I reminded her that by the end of March we will have spent 7 weeks away from home and asked if she did not feel this was a little over the top even for one of her vicarious nature.

This extended trip is to take her to visit our far flung family who, as you know , are scattered over several of the world’s continents.  Her first stop is our cousins in Jakarta and today we received an extremely lengthy missive detailing all the happenings so far.

There has been a new addition to the family, a small creature with exceptionally large ears who goes by the name of Max.  He appears to be very excitable and quite naughty by all accounts.  His bathroom manners are far from perfect and much of his behaviour of a most unacceptable nature.

Cousin Bessie is struggling to keep him under control and has had to call upon her younger sister Nia to step in and put the small chap firmly back into his place in the family pecking order.  He has of course all the exuberance and arrogance of youth and cannot see that to obey attracts less attention in the long run.

He is fond of telling everyone that his ‘breed’ are the animal of choice for “Special Forces” around the world.  Bessie snappishly told him that he should be glad he has fallen with his bum in the butter and is resident in a comfortable home and not digging for mines in Afghanistan!  He is young enough to find that idea exciting…like us all he will learn!

Mother as usual is shopping up a storm at her favourite establishments in Jakarta. The woman as you know cannot miss out on what she considers to be a bargain.  At times, I have commented on a purchase, to the effect that, perhaps, although it may have been reasonably priced it is yet another item that we have to find a place for in our already somewhat cluttered home!

It appears we are in the midst of yet another home transformation, our new style being a combination of items from Thailand and Indonesia. The theme is I believe being adjusted to incorporate our African artefacts as Mother is too attached to them to consign them to our already overflowing garage.

We are enjoying our time here with Uncle Nathan, Bella is not too excited about being put on a diet.  Mother has left strict instructions that she is to be slimmed down by the time she returns  home.  Apparently the Holiday Home has been instructed never again to return her looking like an overfed sheep!

We await with some excitement the next letter which no doubt will have more about the adventures of Mad Max and the other newbies.
