I have been somewhat remiss in my communications this year so far. Since the frantic activity of clearing up after the festivities we have become a family of sloths. We have been suffering not only from the excesses of Christmas but with a heat so intense, the air has been almost too hot to breathe.
This has caused us all to slouch about in a most unseemly fashion. We loll on the sofa throughout the hottest part of the day, fans and aircon on their highest settings. We raise from our lethargy only to eat and drink. Our daily outings are confined to the hours of sunrise and sunset. All in all we are a disgrace to the New Year.
Mother has decreed that all this laziness will come to an end tomorrow. She has been making endless lists for most of the day, prioritising as she goes along. I am quite exhausted just watching the list being prepared, how will I cope in the coming days?
We had a welcome outing to the Park with the Doodle cousins. We found the pond has turned into a gooey, smelly, sticky black hole of exceptionally nasty consistency. We were instructed not to enter, Sid and Cookie failed to obey this command and exited the pond resembling monsters from the black lagoon. They were chastised most severely for their lack of attendance to orders.
Mother has just informed us that we are returning to the Holiday Home this coming weekend. It appears that she is off to a ‘Fat Farm’ to try and shed her excess pounds under strict supervision from the staff.
She will also apparently be ‘recharging her batteries’ to face the coming year! I personally feel it is a little soon for us to be returning to the Holiday Home and I ventured to comment on this fact. I should of course have held my tongue. Alas, I never learn and as usual I ended up in deep poo.
I could foresee many trips to the Holiday Home in the coming months and had simply stated what seemed to be an obvious fact, that we were becoming confused as to where we truly belonged…here or there!
I was told very sharply that we were amongst the most fortunate of canines, being very comfortably housed, not to mention receiving cuisine of the highest of standards. Our health is monitored and our bodies ‘poofed’ and pampered on a regular basis.
I retreated from the conversation before we were threatened with a trip to the Shelter to see how our less fortunate colleagues were faring. The woman has an answer for everything!
We retired early as we apparently have a busy week ahead, I can only hope that our daily outings will continue to be a part of the calendar.
