It has long been discussed the “NEW ERA” we find ourselves in. Post PDV and enter the new HM. But is it really? We all have seen journos eating their hats or paper they wrote on after a Glorious self proclaimed win this weekend. Most predicting or is it indicting the BOKs to a woeful loss to a scrapping Ozzie side.
It is clear that the gameplan for HM is to scrape as many wins as he can to build up a record to say well I am not that bad! The All Blacks for years produced a record of note only to fail at each World Cup. Why did they have this problem? Simply PLAN B. They believed that they would just run riot at every side they came against. But they came unstuck every time when they came up against a resolute defence that wouldn’t stop. Fear was also part of their WC losses the FEAR of losing. Every time they left their shores to contest in a WC they were always told you will WIN or Else! After 20 years of failure and since BOK return to the fold ruined many All Black supporters designated right! Along came plan C “REGULATE a win” if our boys cannot do it. Yes we all know the fate and destiny that prevailed to generate a infamous WC victory dance for Sir Richie. From Pool draws right down to Paddy O’Brian and Bryce Lawrence decisions of refereeing.
But what does this mean to HM and his BOKs? Unlike the weight that New Zealand Rugby Union throws around to assist their team. We know is there is only Plan A. Plan A is subdue the opposition until the dam wall breaks. This is clear as daylight. There is one problem though what happens when the opposition is up to the task and your “SUBDUEERS” are flat and haven’t pitched up because there’s no gas in the tank, thanks to 40 something matches that year? Yes HM is rotating his bulk around to milk out the most he can and rest when possible. Mendoza was the first example of a team that had a strong run the previous week and were idling the next week. They had a week off and thanks to the fact that the bulk didn’t play in France or elsewhere they were well rested. We played the Ozzies and bashed them about all day. Next week we will be up against the old foe. Hopefully the men in green will have rested the bulk well and allowed the energy to overflow for an onslaught that will follow. There is no doubt that we have one vision. That vision is direct and has no scope. It’s one that desires maximum results to keep the barking dogs at bay while you can, until you can recover to fight another day.
I believe every time that a BOK team runs onto the field that they will win. It’s what I grew up with watching. The fan always believes. But the fan also sees cracks and discusses it. Coaching staff these days get it in the neck all the time because unlike the other decades this new era there’s a new animal called “SOCIAL MEDIA”. Every Tom, Dick and Harry has a voice. Every second someone has an opinion. HM has already said he sees this and its endless pressure. Unfortunately for him BOK fans like AB fans are never satisfied. AB fans tend to focus on the players while BOK fans see the talent and blame the coaching staff. And it is clear that the franchise coaching and Bok coaching of South Africa do not use or trust the skill levels of the layers that they receive from age group level. It is time to start harnessing the talent we have and broaden the vision of our players. To enable them to play the game as it is meant to be played. With an open mind and crisp decision making to play the moment and allow his ability to be channelled to make an awesome TEAM!
