I was busy doing my daily chores when I heard a dog cry incessantly. The crying continued and I just couldn't take it any more. I peered out of my dining room window to see if my neighbour was at home. There was not a car or person in sight, so I did the next best thing. I took a jug of water with me and opened my gate to see what was going on at my neighbour's property.
What I saw is so vivid in my memory as it was on the day I saw it. I saw 3 dogs (Sharpei Mix-male, a Boerboel-male, and a Pug/Sharpei Mix-female) attacking what looked like a common township male dog.
This township dog had a piece of cloth in its mouth but its cry was strong enough for me to hear. The Boerboel had it by the throat, the Pug/Sharpei dog was biting it on its side, near the ribs and the Sharpei Mix dog was biting on its leg and twisting it.
When I saw this, I couldn't believe what was happening. I immediately shouted but they wouldn't let go so I did the best next thing, I threw stones at the 3 dogs to free the township dog. This township dog got up, he raised his leg as it had been hurt and he was bleeding at the mouth. He looked at me with such confusion and fear in his eyes. I told him gently as he passed me that he must go home. He seemed to understand me and left. I knew where this dog stayed so it could get home easily.
Then several months went by and I hadn't seen this dog. My heart was so broken as I thought he had died. Then one day, out of the blue, he was well and healthy.
I feel so wonderful that I could save someone else's dog and the reward for me was to see it well and healthy.
I am a true animal lover at heart and I would love to help all of the animals out there. I have 2 rescued cats that I look after and 1 dog who give me so much joy. There is nothing like having joy when you look at animals.
