This issue of law enforcement not doing enough to prevent or reduce road the number of road accidents, especially over the festive season is one that I just don't get.
If a person decides to drive under the influence of alcohol, drugs or any other intoxication (if any??) and is involved in an accident, who's fault is it? Who is responsible, law enforcement? Yes, law enforcement has a role to play, but the responsibility of driving responsibly and safely is with you and me, the drivers/road users.
It saddens me when lives are lost due to carelessness or just plain stupidity, how does one go to the victim's family and tell them law enforcement wasn't doing enough?
Please, I appeal to you all, think about yourself and your family and be responsible! Wear seatbelts, drive with your lights on at all times, avoid speeding, check your vehicle 's condition and tyres before going on long trips, slow down in bad weather conditions, use those driver buddy services if you've been drinking...do all the sensible things to keep yourself and your family alive.
Most of all, if you are a responsible road user, please be alert so you don't end up injured by those careless drivers out there. If you're using public transport or are being driven by someone else, don't be afraid to speak out if they're driving carelessly...it's YOUR life after all!
Enjoy your holidays and please keep safe, alert and alive!
*Sigh* sadly the careless drivers probably won't even read this article or take notice of any other appeals for road safety.
