Living with dyslexia
You know if you have read any of my postings you would realize that all of them have one thing in common. They are spelt worse than a dog’s breakfast, and you will also find that my crammer is not becoming .Now for those of you who don’t know me, the reason for this is a chronic condition that comes and goes, and it’s called dyslexia
The wikipedia describes the condition as follows
“ Dyslexia is a very broad term defining a learning disability that impairs a person's fluency or comprehension accuracy in being able to read,[1] and which can manifest itself as a difficulty with phonological awareness, phonological decoding, orthographic coding, auditory short-term memory, or rapid naming.[2][3]”
Now how do I put it in laymen’s terms .mmmmm
So firstly it affects you when you are reading, it’s like your mind is changing the words, and then you miss read things and they don’t make sense. But this is easily correctable as all I do is read slower, and take my time to read thing properly
Secondly this is were the coding and decoding comes in when you write for argument a article or a quote to clients , and you get comments from people that you have miss spelt every second word . This one is not so easy to correct. It could manifest itself in deferent ways like changing letters around in words and sometimes, you would use a word with the same pronunciation but with a different meaning.
This does not make you slow or a moron or stupid, it makes you a challenge to work with, yes but definitely, not dumb .
I was diagnosed with it from, a young age, at first they that I was slow, so the teachers sent me off to go
For tests, first they test your eyes, then your ears, and when they establish that you can see and can hear they do an aptitude test on you to determine if you are dumb.
The nest test that they do after they figure out that you are not a complete moron is hook your head up so sensors and read your brainwaves. Only to tell your mom, well everything is normal!!!
Now this was in the 1980 I was about 10 and not to be funny all this was a bit intimidating.
Today if you have this type of tendency’s the teachers tell your parents you are a.d.h.t and get a doctor to prescribe you Ritalin, in the mean time you are dyslexic and mist diagnosed and you end up getting hi on the Ritalin uugggg
Well in the 1980’s there was no Ritalin and all that happened was my parents and teachers had to be more patient. Year after year they would try to do the same test over and over, eventfully my mom just told them
To go fly a kite. passed all my subjects at school and matriculated in 1995 with math’s and science ,not to shame I thought ,and then whet on to do a business management course thru , the university of oxford
After a I started working I noticed ,a lot of my colleges, had the same problem as me ,not as bad ,but just the same.
And one day I read something my boss wrote without a spell check and grammar he wrote to some of our managers at branch level and he was trying to tell us how incompetent the managers was it read “ and you guys is a night merry . I had the giggles, but then realized his problem was the same as mine ,and yet he was the owner of one of the biggest fleet maintenance and leasing company’s around , we are talking a billion rand company , and yet it didn’t effect him. He is a success still today . Later in my working life I have seen this in top business people again and again, not in every body but definitely in more than one
There is no cure for it; however it’s not the end of the world!!
So why are you reading this today, cause I wanted to bring it under your attention that if you write under my comments anything about the way I spell ,I DON’T GIVE A STUFF !!!!!!
If you feel the urge to read what I write down as a dyslexic, you should try to see, that it took me twice as long for me to write, and read the article and look at what I am trying to say to you not how
Anyway I hope you get it!!!!!!!
