Dumbwin’s Christian Curry
I’ve noticed a few recipes posted under the MyNews24 section of late, so herewith my submission for a great dish to warm the soul this winter.
Ingredients:
700g-800g chopped up beef or lamb (any cut of beef will do, just cut away most of the fat)
500ml Plain Yoghurt
1 Can of Coconut Cream
300ml Water
1 Tablespoon of freshly grated Ginger
3 Medium-sized, Ripe Tomatoes - chopped
2 Onions – finely chopped
2 Teaspoons crushed garlic
3 Tablespoons Hot Masala mix
1 ½ Tablespoons Garam Masala
Salt to flavour
Half a handful of pre-mixed Curry herbs and flavourings (usually sold in baggies with curry leaves, cinnamon sticks, cumin and coriander seeds, etc...)
Method:
Pour the masalas and curry herb mix into a bowl and add the yoghurt, mix and fold thoroughly. Then add the chopped meat, mix in and leave in the fridge for a couple of hours.
In a pot, fry up the onions and garlic, then add chopped tomatoes and meet. Fry that together for a few min.
Then add the meat and yoghurt, mixing them into the pot and add the water. Turn down the heat and let it simmer.
After 30 min, add ALL remaining ingredients, stir, and cook slowly for another hour or so, stirring every now and then to make sure nothing’s catching on the bottom of the pot.
** - Chopped potatoes can also be added to this pot - allow enough time for the potatoes to cook through.
And that’s it folks, a wonderful Curry dish for this cold winter.
ENJOY !!!
Oh yes, the ‘Christian’ angle is that if you add too much of the hot masala, it will burn the Hell outta you.
