Our government has provided us with alternative routes for those not willing to travel on the tolled highways that have been making our lives much easier over the past couple of years.
Unfortunately for us, they are in much the same state as most of our other roads (especially the rural roads.) This morning, on my way into Sandton, I found an entire family living in the shelter of a pothole - which was amazing because there was actually a bit of tarmac - the area where potholes thrive.
After instructing my trusty GPS to avoid toll roads, I was treated to a lovely gravel road, water crossings and numerous crests great for rally driving.
This does make sense though. Our government has found a new source of income to fund, well, just look at the news lately to see how they've been spending our money. Why would they provide us suitable alternatives when they can funnely us into their cash collecting nets? I'm even willing to bet that there will be new toll roads up in a couple of years on these alternative routes, to get them as 'roadworthy' as the current toll network.
Also expect stricter roadworthy conditions for behicles - they're going to need quite a good set of shocks and tires to deal with the rest of our road network until they are tolled aswell.
