I am one of the millions who are angry with e-tolls.
Whilst watching Madiba's cortege passing the beautiful N2 in the Eastern Cape, I began to appreciate the Gauteng roads even more. Now why are we not seeing the beauty of these roads but only how much we are being robbed for using them? It's a classic case of highway robbery.
Sanral, missed the trick when they marketed the system. They became very defensive, threatened, and even had Vusi Mona making us look like idiots. Why didn't they tell us everything but the money we were going to pay?
Look at the Gautrain, it is a bloody expensive train. But, how many people complain about it? Few! Their marketing department did a splendid job to sell the time one will spend on the roads compared to the train, luxury, and how it could save you a lot of money on the roads in the long run via petrol, maintenance and eventually e-tolls. They sold their services that are there for all to see. Now the public wants this expensive mode of transport to be expanded. Good Marketing.
Sanral, should have told us how traffic is now smooth on Allandale Road to the Highway. That was a brilliant job well done. When there is an accident, their road emergency team are usually at the scene faster than tow truck vultures. This in most cases leads to the highway continuing to flow as they take charge. Tick to you. They also have those big tow trucks to move broken down trucks. Another tick. Highway is now safer due to cameras. These cameras can be used to call Ambulances which could arrive in time to save lives. Tick to you. Your cameras by those gantries can be used in crime prevention too. It takes one less time to drive from Lenesia to Gezina or Boksburg than 3yrs back. Tick to you.
You see, services that we all see on the highways are rarely advertised and if they are, then its a recent thing but the animosity and suspicion has already been created. The amounts to be paid have come down since you initially announced the system but we still believe you are greedy, refuse to use other methods of collection etc. You are not selling yourself as an ethical entity. And ultimately not listening.
So fire your entire marketing department and get people to promote how good it is to be on GP roads. Madiba's final ride on that N2 must have been smooth and that is because of the beauty of that road.
Last partying shot - JZ should have sang at FNB to start off the memorial. We love his singing and he would have got love. That is brand JZ. Sanral also needed to sell to us the benefits before they mentioned the money.
